Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Scientist in Personalized Medicine is responsible for providing bioinformatics support for the development and implementation of SCRI’s global Personalized Medicine and Tissue Banking Initiatives. The Bioinformatics Scientist is also responsible for the establishment of bioinformatics platforms to support disease area programs and individual clinical trials. Duties and Responsibilities: -Consulting and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders for the development and execution of a bioinformatics platform in support of personalized medicine initiatives -Developing algorithms for integrating sequence-based/functional knowledge about genes to help scientists/physicians analyze and interpret genomic data -Assisting in clinical projects related to high-throughput omics data, including next generation sequencing (NGS), microarray (gene expression, microRNA, CNVs, and methylation), and proteomics data -Analyzing genomic and proteomic information and identifying opportunities and needs for innovative solutions for the analysis and management of molecular profiling data in relevant databases -Assisting in the development of software and custom scripts to automate data input, data retrieval, manipulation, and analysis; application of statistics, and visualization tools -Managing key processes involved in IT infrastructure design, database design, interface design, and information processing for personalized medicine initiatives -Maintaining large-scale genomic databases and preparing data for utilization by other scientists/physicians -Monitoring new data from public databases and cleaning loaded data to satisfy quality control criteria -Providing direct technical and scientific customer support and helping to guide, implement and maintain further improvements related to bioinformatics software -Collecting, interpreting and disseminating key intelligence and information relating to bioinformatics to support personalized medicine initiatives -Working with direct reports to ensure the completion of Bioinformatics’ deliverables with high quality and timeliness -Developing and maintaining highly effective, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, as appropriate (SCRI personnel, key opinion leaders, clients, etc) -Proactively handling conflict of interest issues -Other duties as assigned. INDAF Qualifications Competencies Knowledge: -Basic understanding of the integration of bioinformatics, statistics, and informatics -Basic understanding of standard tools and procedures for performing bioinformatics on next generation sequencing data -Knowledge of mixed operating systems environments (e.g. UNIX, Windows, etc.) -Understanding of oncology data models Skills: -Bioinformatic skills in processing/analyzing/interpreting Next Generation Sequencing data -Computer skills in various programming languages like Perl, R, C#, etc -Ability to process, analyze, integrate, and display different data types (e.g. clinical, molecular, etc…) -Excellent communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to develop collaborative relationships; excellent oral, written and presentation skills -Leadership skills; communicates and demonstrates vision and commitment -Excellent problem solving skills Abilities: -Proactive approach -Customer service orientation -Commitment to individual and team success -Commitment to continuous learning Education: Minimum Required:Master’s Degree (1-2 yr program) Preferred: Doctorate Degree Experience: Minimum Required: -3 years of experience in biostatistics and bioinformatics (preferably involving next generation sequence data analysis) and algorithm development in related disease areas, ideally through dealing with data from clinical studies. Oncology certification is preferred.
