Job Description:
Pacific Biosciences is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist with a strong customer focus to support bioinformatics analysis for collaborators and customers using SMRT® sequencing data. The candidate will employ expertise in customer training, bioinformatics, data analysis, biological insight, software engineering and systems administration. The ability to communicate with customers both pre- and post-sales, with internal support and development, to interact with marketing, and to communicate results to diverse audiences, are important aspects of this role. This scientist will be working in a fast-paced commercial environment, interacting with customers, scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds. This individual is a partner to the customer in the understanding and analysis of data derived through use of SMRT sequencing. The position is field based and the candidate will be part of the North America FAS and bioinformatics team. Essential duties and responsibilities: • Train bioinformatics customers and collaborators on Pacific Biosciences data characteristics, Pacific Biosciences analysis tools, and target applications. • Assist and enable customers and collaborators in experimental design and analysis to promote the use of the Pacific Biosciences instrumentation in their laboratories. • Problem-solve to overcome technical challenges during installation or use of Pacific Biosciences analysis tools. • Utilize Pacific Biosciences analysis tools and also open source academic tools to support customer projects for target applications. • Provide timely technical and application assistance in response to customer inquiries. • Provide scientific, technical, and applications feedback to marketing, development and sales. • Assist sales and support in pre-sales functions as well as working with customers to enable analysis based on experimental design and application. • Conduct scientific presentations to internal and external audiences.

Position Requirements:
Personal Skills and Requirements: • Minimum of a Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred in bioinformatics, life science, statistics, and/or computer science degree. • The role is field-based and customer-facing. • Up to 70% travel time is expected. • The candidate must have a valid and clean driver’s license. • The candidate is highly self-motivated and will be part of a strong team driven environment. • The candidate must effectively integrate internal and field based activities across functions to support customer needs. • The candidate is a customer-minded individual with the empathy to understand customer concerns and how to address them appropriately. • The candidate is able to work in a fast-paced commercial environment. • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required. Technical Skills and Requirements: • 3+ years’ experience in bioinformatics. • Well-experienced with Next Generation Sequencing analysis and pipelines. • Experienced with common sequence analysis tools and workflows such as sequence alignment, genome visualization, comparative genomics, structural variation discovery, and epigenetics. • Proficiency with a statistical package such as R or Matlab. • Intermediate level of experience in Unix operating systems. • Knowledge of a scripting language such as Perl or Python is desirable. • Hands-on experience and basic knowledge in operation of next-generation DNA sequencing instruments and essays is a great benefit. • Excellent trouble-shooting abilities. • Familiar with case management or ticketing systems. • Experienced in conducting scientific presentations to internal and external audiences for pre- and post-sales activities. • Familiarity with the manuscript publication process and associated experimental design requirements.essentialRequeriments :
