Job Description:
The Department of Bioinformatics andComputational Biology at Genentech has an outstanding opportunity available fora highly motivated computational biologist. This person will work closely withthe Immunology Discovery and Immunology Diagnostics departments in thedevelopment of novel therapeutics and biomarkers for use in the treatment ofautoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Immunological diseases are characterized by ahighly heterogeneous presentation in human populations, often with a strong genetic contribution. Our goal is to develop therapies that we can effectively target to theappropriate patient population.This person will work with immunology scientists from early pre-clinicalresearch to clinical stage programs, to deliver life-changing therapies topatients.

Who You Are:

We are seeking candidates who possess thefollowing skills and experience. The level of the position will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics,Computational Biology or related discipline, preferably with experience in thefield of Immunology
  • Candidates with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience may be considered forthe Scientist level
  • Record of publication in high-impact scientificjournals, including first author publications; on-going publication ofscientific or methodological papers will be highly encouraged in this role
  • Excellent background in next generationsequencing data analysis
  • Highly proficient in writing code in R or asimilar programming language such as Matlab, Perl, or Python for bioinformaticsanalyses
  • Thorough understanding and interest in biology with the demonstratedability to contribute toscientific efforts focused on understanding diseases
  • Ability to work collaboratively with bench scientists to resolve complex biological problems
  • Passionate about applying skills ingenomics analysis to utilize bioinformatics methods (e.g. from Bioconductor)to understand the biology ofdisease
  • Ability to work successfully as thebioinformatics lead in cross functional teams that contribute todrug and biomarker development
  • Skill in presenting complex results, both verbally and in writing, to diverse bioinformatics and non-bioinformatics audiences
  • Ability to work effectively in a teamoriented environment
