Job Description:
The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB | http://systemsbiology.org), in collaboration with Inova Translational Medicine Institute (ITMI | http://inova.org/itmi), is seeking highly-qualified and highly-motivated bioinformatics scientists to work at the forefront of clinical genomics research. We will be integrating and analyzing a massive and ever-growing collection of genomics data and electronic medical records from tens of thousands of patients. Join our team and help to develop the large-scale translational analyses that will revolutionize the practice of medicine. The successful candidate will join a diverse team of researchers that include computational biologists, clinicians, doctors and engineers. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, analyzing, and validating bioinformatics algorithms and software tools in support of project research objectives. You must be very comfortable working in a team environment, and possess strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to work independently with a high level of initiative are required. Required Skills And Experience (as Demonstrated By Your Resume)

    • A Masters degree, or equivalent, in engineering or science
    • Direct experience working with scientific data within a scientific research environment
    • Direct experience with data exploration, processing, and analysis
    • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, or Ruby), and scripting for unix-based operating systems
    • Experience with extracting, manipulating, and integrating data from public biological data repositories (e.g. NCBI, Ensembl, UCSC)
    • Proficiency with bioinformatics tools
  Highly Desirable Skills And Experience
    • Experience with programming and analysis in environments such as MATLAB or R
    • Experience working with large-scale genomic data
    • Proficiency with statistical analysis and visualization of biological data
