Job Description:
Primary Duties & Responsibilities: -Pipeline development – generating reproducible tools for analysis and visualization that can be used by non-bioinformaticians for routine data analysis for a wide variety of NGS applications -Data analysis & experimental design – work closely with molecular biologists in the DNA-Seq R&D group, by assisting in the design of experiments to explore product performance, as well as leading the statistical analysis of the resultant datasets -Intensively analyze data to understand system properties that can affect results and propose potential experimental modifications accordingly -Keep up to date with the latest developments in NGS analysis algorithms, especially in highly active fields such as single cell DNA-Seq -Attend conferences to present data, obtain information on current developments in bioinformatics and develop external contacts -Manage the group’s NGS workstations and coordinate with IT staff regarding computer resourcing and data management Education / Experience /Requirements: -Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, statistics or a related field with 1+ years of work experience in NGS data analysis in industry or academia. -Strong hands-on experience with analyzing next-generation sequencing data. Preference given to candidates with knowledge and experience with sequence variant discovery, e.g. using GATK, VarDict, VarScan, Lofreq or similar tools. -Proficient in at least two of the following programing languages: C, C++, Java, Python and Shell in a Linux environment -Proficient in statistical data analysis of genomic data using R/Bioconductor and a proven ability to develop algorithms to extract meaningful biological insights from large-scale NGS data -In depth knowledge of the main bioinformatics tools and public biological databases in current use -Experience developing analysis scripts or pipelines for both internal and customer use; familiarity with GUI development is a plus -Familiarity with cloud-based tools and solutions is a strong plus -Experience with bioinformatics related to single cell genomics NGS is a strong plus -Hands-on experience with molecular biology methods is an advantage -Independent and self-motivated, with a strong sense of urgency and ability to drive a project to completion under tight deadlines -Able to prioritize multiple tasks appropriately, with good organizational and note taking skills -Strong interest in technology development and translating scientific ideas into novel applications -Highly effective analytical and problem solving skills, including excellent attention to detail -Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills -Excellent oral and written communication skills
