Job Description:

Molecular Stethoscope is looking for a Bioinformatician as a crucial member of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to discovery and development of RNA based molecular diagnostics. He/she will be responsible for development of new methods for mining and analyzing molecular and clinical data as well as providing advice on statistical design of experiments and clinical trials. The successful candidate is expected to conduct his/her job responsibilities with a high degree of urgency, accuracy and professionalism.

Further develop the Molecular Stethoscope effort in bioinformatics analysisSupply strategic input on infrastructure and clinical trials

Position Requirements & Experience

PhD in Bioinformatics or Bioengineering with strong background in molecular biology

TECHNICAL SKILL SETS REQUIREMENTS

Basic Tools :Proficiency in using statistical programming language, like R or Python, and a database querying language like SQLData Visualization :Familiarity with data visualization tools like ggbio, ggplot and d3.js. It is important to not just be familiar with the tools necessary to visualize data, but also the principles behind visually encoding data and communicating information. Being able to create web based interactive statistical visualizations [deployment of UCSC genome browser, R Shiny] to express the research results.Machine learning :Experience in developing classification algorithms using biological information e.g SNPs / Gene expression data to predict/classify outcomes.Statistical analysis: Able to understand and work around possible limitations in studies with limited sample sizes; and also to develop hypothesis and test them with careful experiments.Biological Understanding: Have a strong understanding of how molecular biological experiment works [e.g qPCR, Multiplex PCR, RNA-seq library prep, digital PCR];Have an extensive knowledge and the ability to query any biological databases for required data [e.g: GEO omnibus, EBI expression, SRA, Allen brain atlas, MethlyomeDB]Develop scripts to compile vast amounts of information from activities such as gene expression profiling and protein expression to perform statistical analysis [Multivariate Analysis, Design of Experiments, Differential Gene Expression, SNP calling, Peak calling]System ArchitectureBeing able to develop informatics pipeline for scaling and processing of data [e.g BASH scripting for instruments]. Having a good understanding of design and computer architecture principles.
