Job Description:
The Integrative Omics Research group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a highly motivated research scientist in the areas bioinformatics research of advanced mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics. The successful candidate will be responsible for research supported by a broad range of sponsors including DOE and NIH in computational omics. The research involves both algorithm design and implementation to solve the cutting edge problems in data analysis and integration. Projects include processing and transformations of proteomic mass spectrometry data, next generation sequencing data, and potentially other ‘omic data types (e.g. metabolomics). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with bioinformatics, algorithm development, software engineering, visual analytics, and a practical working knowledge of proteomics/ mass spectrometry data analysis. The successful candidate will be required to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, be self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. The successful candidate is expected to assist and lead the preparation and presentation of scientific documents (e.g. papers, posters, reports, etc).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree with 0-2 years experience or a PhD.
  • Expected to contribute professionally, building a professional reputation for technical expertise. Fully applying and interpreting standard theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:

- A PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics or a similar data intense field.

- Candidate must be self-directed and be able to work both independently and with a group.

- Candidates must be fluent in object oriented languages, web programming and graphical user interface design.

- The candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written English.

- Additional required skills include test driven implementation, software versioning, developing scientific manuscripts and presentations.

- Additional areas of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: computational mass spectrometry, user interactions, molecular biology, genetics, proteomics, and/or microbiology.
