Job Description:
We are seeking an expert in computational prediction, modeling and analysis of protein structure and function with a passion to revolutionize the discovery of breakthrough medicines by tapping into nature’s powerful solutions. This accomplished bioinformatician will work within a growing team to help in protein structure modeling and engineering, functional annotation of genome sequences, homology modelling and functional inference, and general proteomic data analysis in support of the Bioinformatics and Structural Biology groups and LifeMine’s fungal genomically-enabled drug discovery platform.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish a pipeline for the analysis of protein sequences from the whole genome sequences of fungi from diverse
  • Create methods for gene identification and functional annotation.
  • Perform protein structural analysis and homology modeling studies to identify areas of functional import and establish protein family relationships.
  • Write scripts to automate protein functional annotation and proteomic data analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining the IT infrastructure across the company, manage outsourcing relationships, and make data accessible to fellow researchers.
  • Actively collaborate with LifeMine’s Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, Natural Product Chemistry, and Mass Spectroscopy groups to communicate results, interpret data, and design new experiments. Identify and benchmark available tools and develop new algorithms to meet project needs.
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies, be versed with current literature, identify new opportunities where bioinformatics can bring value, and implement new features and functionality into the genomically-enabled drug discovery engine.
Job Requirements :
  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years industry experience required.
  • Expert knowledge of protein structure, protein families and understanding of protein structure/function relationships.
  • Expertise in the use protein structure modeling software PyMol, MOE, or Rosetta.
  • Proficiency in the use Python, R, and Perl, and experience working with large data sets and
  • Familiarity with wet lab work; in particular protein structure determination by X-ray crystallography and NMR, molecular biology, and proteomic mass spectroscopy.
  • Experience in analyzing microbial genomes and metabolic pathway engineering a plus.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver results on schedule in a fast-paced entrepreneurial
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • A record of publishing leading scientific papers in both specialized and general- audience
