Job Description:
Sequenom is a pioneer in Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) and has one of the most comprehensive and advanced informatics methods and pipelines for NGS based prenatal testing. We currently have a great opportunity for a Bioinformatics Scientist (levels I,II, or Senior based on skills and years of experience) . The Bioinformatics scientist will have the opportunity to participate in algorithm development, data analyses, datamining, and pipeline development pertaining to company’s current and future NIPT products and variety of oncology projects. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a collaborative research environment and be able to provide evidence of relevant research expertise in the form of presentations, software, technical publications, and/or knowledge of applications Responsibilities: Develop machine learning methods and/or computational algorithms to infer insight full biological information from Next Generation Sequencing data Big Data analyses/mining over internally produced and publicly available very large data sets Perform statistical and bioinformatics analyses of experimental data produced by Next generation sequencing instruments, and other genome sequencing methods Provide analysis information to management to aid in decision making on the development of new laboratory developed tests Participate in designing and conducting Verification and Verification studies Work closely with molecular biologists during assay development and optimizations Collaborate with the software team to build R&D and clinical pipelines Provide bioinformatics support for the commercial launch of molecular diagnostic tests At the senior level, perform the role of technical lead and manage and mentor junior scientists Requirements: PhD degree Required in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering , Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or related field. 3-5 years of work experience , preferably in a commercial biotechnology setting <7/> Strong background in machine learning, statistical learning, and exploratory data analysis Experience with signal processing and time series analyses is highly desirable Experience with analyzing data from high throughput systems including next generation sequencing, microarray, highly-multiplexed PCR, and/or proteomic systems Experience in biological sequence analysis and next-generation sequencing data Knowledge of human genetics and biology Proficiency with at least one of the following statistical computing languages: R (Preferred), S-PLUS, Matlab, SAS Programming experience in Java, Python or Perl and experience with databases and SQL highly desirable Experience in a Linux HPC environment Experience with Laboratory Developed Tests (LDT) desirable Experience developing under Design Control environment desirable
