Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has become available in the Bioscience Core Lab (BCL) at KAUST. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative bioinformatics scientist to join our facility. The bioinformatics scientist will play a key role in developing data processing and analysis methods to support the growth of our state-of-the-art sequencing platforms (e.g. Illumina, PacBio and Oxford Nanopore) and to address a broad range of advanced scientific questions, in addition to optimizing informatics workflows to facilitate timely and robust data generation. The scope of this position spans from handling raw data of the instrument all the way to downstream data analysis and interpretation. This position involves frequent interactions with bench scientists, facility users, faculties, researchers, vendors, IT and other stakeholders. We are a core lab facility and the working environment and mentality is service- and support-oriented in a cooperative spirit. - Seek, evaluate, develop, implement and apply advanced bioinformatics methods to address scientific questions
- Stay up-to-date on the development of cutting-edge life sciences technologies
- Partner with bench scientists in developing and optimizing innovative assays and methodologies
- Advice facility users and PIs in experimental design and data analysis strategies
- Design and provide advanced trainings to users
- Support robust and efficient data management in the facility
- Make contributions to advance research in KAUST and beyond
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related fields with extensive experience is required
- Experience with analyzing large-scale NGS data is required
- Experience with third generation sequencing is a plus
- Additional experience in proteomics analysis (e.g. mass spectrometry) is a plus
- Demonstrated scientific expertise and knowledge in the genomics field
- Proficiency in Python, Perl, R or other scripting languages. Substantial experience working in an HPC Unix/Linux environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
