Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Software Developer at The Institute for Genomic Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital will contribute to our expanding efforts in cutting-edge genomics research and incorporation into clinical medicine. You will have the opportunity to assist in all aspects of next-generation sequencing analysis including data generation, analysis, and interpretation. We are looking for a candidate with strong computational abilities who enjoys solving complex problems and has a desire to make an impact in medical care through advancing our understanding of the role of the human genome in disease. Previous experience in bioinformatics or computational biological background is preferred, but not required for this position (on the job training will be provided as needed).

Responsibilities:

-Assisting in the development, validation, and deployment of in-house bioinformatics tools.

-Evaluating and integrating community-developed bioinformatics tools.

-Work with clinical staff, biologists and bioinformatics scientists to create custom applications to identify, extract, and display relevant biological information.

Other information:

-Bachelors or Master’s degree in computer science or related discipline.

-Software development experience in languages such as Python or Java.

-Familiarity with web application development.

-Experience in a Linux/Unix environment.

-Strong mathematical and abstract thinking skills, with hands-on ability to turn ideas into code.

-Standard knowledge of algorithms, data structures and scientific programming.

-Experience in computational biology or bioinformatics a plus but not required.

-Interest in molecular biology and genetics, and willingness to learn concepts and terminology from these fields as needed.

-Knowledge of clinical laboratory regulations (CLIA) or other regulatory experience is a plus.

-Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.

-Must be a team player with good communication skills and an attention to detail.
