Bioinformatics Software EngineerNRC Fellowship at the Naval Research LaboratoryCenter for Bio/Molecular Science & EngineeringUSA-DC-WASHINGTON NRL’s Center for BioMolecular Science and Engineering has a Research Opportunity available in Bioinformatics Software Engineering. The successful candidate will be joining a highly multidisciplinary team of scientists engaged in systems and synthetic biology research, primarily focused on the characterization of microbial consortia. The candidate will primarily be responsible for scaling bioinformatics applications to emerging high-performance computing (HPC) architectures (such as many integrated core or MIC architectures) for the analysis of ‘-omics' -level datasets (such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics).

Therefore, it is essential that the candidate possess a multidisciplinary skill set spanning computer science, biology, and analytical chemistry. This opportunity features access to the Navy DOD Supercomputing Center, leverages data acquired from state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation, and is a multi-institutional research program. The potential opportunity exists for permanent employment.

&nbsp Requirements include a Ph.D. in computer science, bioanalytical chemistry, life sciences, or related fields within the past five years. Additional requirements include demonstrated experience in bioinformatics and/or computational biology, software engineering (in languages such as C, C++, and Java). Familiarity with open-source bioinformatics applications is highly desirable. The candidate must be well-organized, self-motivated, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

As this is a highly-multidisciplinary research program spanning a number of sciences, highly ambitious candidates with interest in the position description are encouraged to contact the PI to discuss the opportunity in more detail.

However, the qualification requirement of a PhD in Computer Science, Bio/Analytical Chemistry, and/or Engineering in conjunction with above mentioned criteria (in the past 5 years) is a firm requirement.
