We are currently seeking a Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team in San Diego, CA. Major Responsibilities:
- Study, research, import, build and maintain the in-house bioinformatics database and develop data processing automation solutions.
- Study, research, import, build and maintain the in-house food and nutrient database using nutritional data analysis and data imputation.
- Assist Bioinformatics Scientists in analysis of in-house genomics data derived from GenBen’s GBInsight Genetic Testing products.
- Participate in web application development with focus on data collection and customer report generation and automation.
- Provide data analysis consultation services and work as the interface between the Bioinformatics Team and others such as the production and customer support teams.
- Masters degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Genomic Sciences, Molecular Biology, or Genetics.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL language.
- 3 years of experience in bioinformatics data analysis, data mining and processing or other related areas.
- Strong skills in programming languages such as Perl, PHP or Python.
- General knowledge of molecular biology and genetics.
- Must be familiar with publicly available bioinformatics databases, tools, algorithms, and websites, such as NCBI, UCSC, ENSEMBL, ENCODE, 1000 Genomes and NHGRI.
- Proficient in the Linux operating system and basic shell script programming.
- Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of NGS data processing.
- Experience with cloud-based computing services.
- Knowledge of statistics preferred.
- Programming skills in R and web application development.
- Knowledge of nutrition science.
