Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Specialist role is for someone who is interested in progressing a growing Clinical Next Generation Sequencing Diagnostic Center by investigating, developing and implementing new informatics algorithms, processes and architecture. He/she will use their expertise in the development of new clinical assays that impact patient care through the implementation of informatics pipelines and act as a clinical informatics liaison in a variety of settings. This role will be responsible for implementing and overseeing big data solutions as well as helping to identify failures in infrastructure robustness while taking corrective action. He/she will undertake investigative work through data analytics to validate new informatics processes that can be used in patient care and will have an interest and capability to perform research and support others in research as it pertains to clinical diagnostics. He/she will be active in troubleshooting in all areas of the laboratory from wet lab practices through clinical delivery. This role will be required to operate, maintain and seek to improve bioinformatics practices and documentation in accordance with the Clinical American Pathologists guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology or a related field and 1+years working knowledge of data storage and analytics as it relates to next generation sequencing, required. Solid programming and debugging skills in Java, Python, or other high level programming environments, required. Experience in the use of bioinformatics, software, packages, and databases, preferably in the cancer genomics area, required. Familiarity with build systems, version control and other standard development, required. Proficiency in shell programming and high performance cluster computing, required. Ability to work independently to improve, expand, and develop informatics workflows.

Master's Degree, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology or a related field , preferred.
