Job Description:
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Specialist to join the team in the laboratories of Jorge Moscat and Maria T. Diaz-Meco to investigate the role of inflammation and metabolism in cancer. The Moscat lab is studying the signaling pathways that regulate inflammation and cell proliferation, and their interface with metabolism, which are central in the control of tumor initiation and progression. The Diaz-Meco lab is studying metabolism and inflammation in the context of prostate cancer, with the aim of understanding the biology of the disease and to identify potentially novel therapeutic targets. The Bioinformatics Specialist will work closely with the wet lab scientists and principal investigators and their teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and automating information and analysis pipelines, data integration, pattern-matching analyses and visualization
  • Supporting of reproducible computational research
  • Analysis, interpretation and integration of comprehensive, state-of-the-art genome-wide datasets, such as RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq, as well as transcription factor motif analysis, and pathway analysis
  • Data analysis, including scripting, programming, statistical analyses
  • Applying common standard analysis tools and algorithms (R/Bioconductor, python, etc)
  • Supports multiple projects directed by lab investigators and contributes to the general technical knowledge of researchers

Required Skills

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or Life Sciences or equivalent studies AND a minimum of 5 years work experience OR a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or Life Sciences or equivalent studies AND 3 years of work experience in related field OR Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or Life Sciences or equivalent studies
  • Biological or Life Science lab or experiment experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in NGS data analysis is preferred
Other Requirements and/or Specifications:
  • Excellent bioinformatic and programming skills
  • Strong knowledge and skills in bioinformatics, statistics and next-generation sequencing data analysis
  • Ability to use current bioinformatics tools and have an in depth knowledge of advanced sequencing and array-based technologies
  • Strong programming skills
  • Communicates effectively and collaborates well with Principal Investigators and their team members
  • Have strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Possess strong attention to detail, analytical and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
