Job Description:
The position is to join an active well-funded clinical research group in the Division of Nephrology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. The candidate will be responsible for conceptualization, drafting, and integration of statistical input for clinical studies and grants, oversight of data collection / quality control, and statistical analyses of multi-center clinical trials. The position will require mentoring varying levels of investigators and staff on good clinical practices, optimal data flows, use of appropriate statistical methods, and interpretation / limitations of analyses. The statistician will work with investigators to derive variables in SAS/SPSS/etc. to clean data, perform analyses on large, complex datasets, produce tables and graphs in publication-quality form, and present results.

Additional duties include training and assisting students, post-docs, and research affiliates in the use of the analysis system and large, complex database, and also as a program reviewer and quality control checkpoint person for analyses that others have conducted.

Responsibilities:

-Contribute statistical input on studies, manuscripts and grants, including assessment of protocol feasibility, consistency between study aims and analysis plans, and power calculations.

-Consult with investigators on the appropriateness of planned statistical analyses and provide alternative approach if necessary.

-Analyze data from studies / clinical trials using a variety of methods, including longitudinal mixed effects modeling, multivariate linear and logistic regression, and mediation analyses.

-Write up methods, results, and limitations of statistical analyses for manuscripts plus grant writing.

-Oversee data collection and data flows, providing consultation and mentorship on case report form design, as well as development of the electronic data collection schema.

-Conduct training on principles of basic statistical methods (e.g., t-tests, correlations, sample size)

Qualifications

Qualifications:

The job requires a Master's degree in (bio-)statistics with 5+ years of clinical research experience, or (preferably) a Ph.D. with 3+ years of clinical research experience. The ideal candidate will desire to be integrally involved in all stages of the design and conduct of a study, providing input on any aspect that could affect data quality and the validity, generalizability, or interpretation of statistical analyses.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

-Proficiency programming in SAS, including SAS macro language, SAS graphics, and SAS Proc IML, SPSS, STATA, graphical software, and statistical EPI and genetics (metabolomics, proteomics, etc.)

-Knowledge of longitudinal regression analysis, conditional logistic regression, Cox proportional hazards models

-Ability to interact with healthcare researchers and staff, explain basic statistical methods and successfully translate their needs into operational statistical computer code

-Knowledge of a variety of statistical methods

-Exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills

-Experience working on grants / understanding of good grant craftsmanship

-Excellent organizational skills and the ability to independently multi-task and (re-)set priorities; detail oriented

-Experience in data management across systems (e.g., SQL, Access) and superior programming skills a must.

-Knowledge of PC applications, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint

-Experience using Electronic Data Capture systems, monitoring and improving quality of data collection and entry
