Job Description:
A position is open in the Cancer Genomics Laboratory of the Department of Cancer Biology at the Kimmel Cancer Center, Thomas Jefferson University, reporting to Bioinformatic Senior Project Leader. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with end-users of advanced genomics platforms to address their needs in technology selection, experimental design, informatics resources, data analysis, visualization, and interpretation.

  • Perform complex data analysis and other duties as required for technologies including but not limited to microarray, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, whole-exome sequencing, and whole-genome sequencing.
  • Develop and optimize pipelines for automated data analysis and reporting.
  • Perform literature and database searches to identify and incorporate latest computational advances into research activities
  • Present findings of ongoing research at lab meetings, research progress seminars, professional meetings and conferences.
  • Apply to various sponsoring agencies for fellowships that are related to the focus of the research project
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University.
Qualifications:

The desired candidate must have a Master’s degree or higher in computational biology, computer science, statistics or related field. The candidate will be involved in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data related to cancer research in the Department of Cancer Biology. The candidate is expected to be able to develop new algorithms, make sense of the data and construct predictive models for precision medical applications. The candidate will assume responsibility for specific, on-going research projects under the joint direction/guidance of Dr. P. Fortina, Director, and Dr. A. Ertel, Head of the Bioinformatics Group. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group. S/he will be expected to participate in project planning, interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. The successful candidate is also expected to demonstrate basic scientific knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology and/or human genetics.

•MS or higher in computational biology, computational science, statistics, or mathematics, engineering, genomics/genetics or related fields

•UNIX/LINUX and high performance computing experience

• Proficiency in R or similar commonly used statistical languages

•Basic proficiency with Python, Perl, or other languages
