Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Specialist will be responsible for handling an expanding exome sequencing database, currently comprised of 2000 sequenced individuals, corresponding to several different projects. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating the in-house exome variant database and analysis interface, acquiring and storing exome results received from the New York Genome Center, and various other genome centers, managing 500TB of data on off-site servers, communicating with investigators about their specific bioinformatics needs, and maintaining the laboratory's in-house, on-line exome query interface, and coordinating it with IGV (the genomic viewer used for each exome), spearheading a somatic variant discovery project, as well as other bioinformatics related tasks, particularly but not restricted to high-throughput genomics. Will attend weekly Bioinformatics & Biostatistics Working Group Meeting to interact with other groups in the Rockefeller community.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and educational emphasis in bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer science with some genomic background strongly preferred. Must have experience with creating, writing and running shell scripts, knowledge and experience with programming (Python, Perl, C++) and database queries using MySQL, and experience and knowledge in a Linux environment. Previous high-throughput genomics experience (particularly exome/whole genome alignment and annotation) a plus. Must be independent, organized, hardworking, dedicated, and possess good team work and communication skills.
