Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Program in the Research Computing Division at RTI International has an opening for a Bioinformatics Data Specialist with expertise in design and development of analytic tools for genomic and metagenomics and demonstrated leadership capabilities. The successful candidate for this position will have deep understanding and significant experience working with complex data sets relevant to biological systems. Experience developing automated methods of data analysis, storage and retrieval for real-time data mining. Use of mathematical models to develop bioinformatics tools to evaluate and compare images. Demonstrated ability to implement software best practices to ensure development of robust bioinformatics tools. The candidate must also have excellent communication skills and demonstrated leadership working in a team environment. Residing in the Bioinformatics Group of the Research Computing Division, the Bioinformatics Specialist will be surrounded by colleagues with a wide variety of expertise in areas such as cloud computing, software and database engineering, high performance computing, data management and processing, data modeling and ontologies, genetics, genomics, and use of standards. Most work is accomplished by interdisciplinary teams, promoting innovation and collaboration. The location of this position is Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Responsibilities:

- Lead and/or contribute to the design and development of bioinformatics tools for genetic and genomic studies
- Lead and/or contribute to the development of tools to facilitate data integration and data harmonization across studies
- Be an assertive member of interdisciplinary teams and a team player
- Provide bioinformatics expertise for proposals and other business development efforts
Required
Qualifications: PhD in Computer Science, Genetics, Bioinformatics, or related discipline and 8 years of experience Expertise With The Following:- System design, including data storage, retrieval and data mining for complex data sets
- Data integration, data modeling and data analysis
- Development of tools for data exploration and data visualization
- Demonstrated scientific leadership
- To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
- Languages e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, Scala
- SQL and PL/SQL
- Simulation and inference
- Experience with proposal developmen
