Job Description:
Apply technical and analytical expertise to explore and examine data from multiple disparate sources with the goal of discovering patterns and previously hidden insights, providing a competitive advantage, or addressing a pressing business problem. Apply expertise in computer science, software development, and the latest technologies to design and implement analysis infrastructure and tools, analytic workflow processes, and complex data visualizations. Maintain responsibility for the design and development of the Web-based NICHD Placenta Atlas Tool system and the NICHD Data and Specimen Hub system development process. Develop data integration, extraction, and transformation software to allow access to relevant external genomic and medical databases and load data into the PAT database. Develop a Web-based user interface in accordance with Section 508 compliance guidance and best practices for systems usability. Perform external software tool evaluation and testing to assess suitability for Placenta Atlas Tool functionality. Participate in designing system architecture, system software components, and user interface and in developing system software for front

-end and back

-end system functionality.

Basic Qualifications:

-6+ months of experience with developing genomics, bioinformatics, or health systems as a junior bioinformatician or developer.

-Knowledge of current genomics technology and strategies to identify best of breed solutions that pipeline together.

-Knowledge of Linux Enterprise, Apple OS, Windows, JavaScript, C#/.Net, Java, PERL, Python, R, and SQL.

-Knowledge of genomics databases, Pathways, data mining, visualization of genomics objects, genomics and health standards, and the vocabulary of statistical analysis.

-Ability to communicate complex concepts concisely and interact with onsite clients and staff daily.

-Public Trust clearance.

-BS degree in Bioinformatics with a CS focus or CS with a Health and Bioinformatics focus.

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with open source tools, including Galaxy and Plink.

-Experience with developing systems on the Cloud, including AWS.

-Experience with open source Cloud platforms and accompanying technology, including Hadoop, Accumulo, and Tsunami.

-Experience in working with common APIs, including REST.

-Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Word Documents, and Project.

-Knowledge of medical and genomics terminology and vocabulary, including UMLS, SNOMED, HL7, GO ontology, and OMIM.

-MS degree in Bioinformatics with a CS focus or CS with a Health and Bioinformatics focus.
