Job Description:
The purpose of this position is to coordinate and maintain analysis of large electron microscopic image volumes, which generates fundamental data for multiple research projects. This position performs various support duties, and responds to inquiries and resolves matters of relatively low complexity. Responsibilities require some basic decision making and resourcefulness within available guides and precedents. Work effort impacts client services, program and project image, with nominal liabilities. Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities are functional in nature, and are performed under direct supervision. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to: 1) Organize and orchestrate undergraduate student projects. 2) Train lab personnel on 3D image analysis software. 3) Perform segmentation and final editing of cellular objects. 4) Generate skeletonized structures for computational modeling of neurons. 5) Organize activities and data files across the lab’s computers. 6) Convert files across formats to be used in different software packages. 7) Scheduling student times in the lab and monitoring their progress. 8) Assist with troubleshooting software problems. Supervisory/Lead Role : Reports to the Principal Investigator. This position will normally receive or follow specific instructions for routine work. Supervision of others is not required, however, sharing of knowledge with others and team participation is expected in the role. Physical Demands: Must be able to operate standard office equipment including a computer, copy machine, printers, telephones, faxes, and others. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs. May occasionally require reaching to high or low places for lifting of files and other office items and equipment. Activities are predominantly non-manual though some manual work may be included. Work Environment: Normal office environment with shared space and equipment. Will on occasion experience external environment when preparing for and attending meetings, events, etc. Responsible to know and comply with all safety procedures. Requirements Requisite Qualifications Education and/or Experience: 1) Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, biology or related; And 2) 6 months - 2 years of experience of data management and analysis Or 3) An equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: 1) Knowledge of structures in electron microscopy image volumes. 2) Knowledge of Seg3D, Web Knossos and MeshLab software. 3) Knowledge of statistics, algebra, geometry, calculus, and their applications. 4) Skilled in using computers and computer systems to program, write software, set up functions, enter data and process information. 5) Ability to evaluate data quality. 6) Ability to create databases to store electronic data. 7) Ability to prepare data for analysis and analyze data to identify or resolve problems. 8) Ability to develop procedures for data management. 9) Exceptional organizational and time management skills. 10) Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. 11) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 12) High attention to detail. 13) Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures. 14) Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 15) Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 16) Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 17) Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 18) Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. 19) Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and provide effective communication with the team. 20) Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 21) Skilled at using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information. 22) Skilled at compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
