Job Description:
The candidate will participate in meeting the needs of SNP-related human molecular genetic studies, population genetic studies, bioinformatics, genomics and computational studies.

  • Perform computer-based research using biomedical databases.
  • Running existing bioinformatic programs for data analysis.
  • Development of custom data extraction and analysis programs as driven by project needs.
  • Writing computer programs for systematic computational data analysis.
  • Installation and modifications of new softwares for computational research and statistical analysis. Contribute to development of existing softwares.
  • Coordinate with bench scientists and computational scientists to handle multiple concurrent analysis projects.
  • Perform SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) database search, annotation and computational analysis on disease-related target genes and genomic regions.
  • Perform computational analysis to configure haplotypes, LD (linkage disequilibrium) block structure of the genomic region on high-throughput genotype data from databases (such as HapMap) and experiments.
  • Maintenance of the human genomic DNA samples and cells as well as the corresponding sample databases.
  • Perform high-throughput bench-based novel SNP discovery and SNP genotyping experiments.
  • Routine maintenance of lab equipments.
  • Participates in laboratory meetings to discuss scientific data
  • Assists in orienting and aiding trainees (student and/or other post doctoral fellows) in performing laboratory techniques and data analysis, and provides guidance, advice and assistance.
  • Prepares draft reports of study related findings.
  • Orders supplies and maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MD or MS in Biomedical sciences, with working experience on haplotype, ancestry, imputation, genomics, high-throughput data analysis and database is required. Fluent computer programming ability is required.
  • Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working experience on programming. Proficient on programming languages, especially Scala, MATLAB, Linux shell and Java (JDBC, JSP, servlets, Swing or other GUI toolkit).
  • Working experiences on haplotype analysis and haplotyping.
  • Working experiences on genetic and genomic ancestry analysis.
  • Working experiences on data imputation.
  • Working experiences on various big biomedical and genomic databases.
  • Working experiences on HRC, KGP, Hapmap.
  • Ability to quickly master new programming languages related for databases.
  • Experience with the bioinformatics software and package: FastQC, Samtools, UCSC Database, Tophat.
  • Molecular biology knowledge
  • Medical knowledge.
  • Ability to work collegially with others as part of a collaborative team, especially communicate with researchers on the basic medical sciences.
  • Ability to provide reports of related studies and findings.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks precisely, efficiently and handle a variety of tasks with minimum supervision.
