We are currently seeking a Biological Risk Analyst. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. Battelle’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Defense business, in our National Security Global Business, is currently seeking a risk analyst with experience conducting probabilistic risk assessment, expert elicitations, and risk management. The Hazard Modeling Team within CBRNE Defense provides its customers with technical analyses as well as modeling capabilities to inform their preparedness and response planning efforts to mitigate risk to the United States or their company. - Design, develop, conduct, and analyze studies regarding the human health impact of adverse events involving exposure to hazardous biological materials
- Design, develop, guide, and inform mathematical models for biological agent production, stabilit y, contagious spread, and medical treatment
- Prepare written reports, presentations, and publications based on the findings of studies
- Some domestic travel is anticipated
- Relocation support is available for this position
- Must have a minimum of a Master’s degree with 2-5 years of experience or Doctorate degree 0-2 years of experience. Degree must be in biochemical engineering, computational biology, biostatistics or related field with a minor, certificate, or emphasis in computer science or equivalent coursework. Background in physics/mathematics is desired. Will also consider physics and mathematics majors with a strong background in biology.
- Hands on experience doing research on a biological pathogen (e.g., bacteria, viruses).
- Experience developing mathematical models of biological phenomenon such as organism growth, stability, infection, or contagious spread.
- Understanding of microbial growth, pathology, and immunology.
- Coursework in statistics or probability
- Experience with culturing of organisms, pathology, and/or medical interventions.
- Development of models in an object-oriented programming language such as C++, C#, or Java.
- Good oral and written communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and strong time management skills.
- Must have sole U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances
