Job Description:
This position is a 9-month position (renewable up to 3 years), non-tenure position with responsibilities focused on research at St. Cloud State University. We are looking for candidates to lead the effort on comparative metagenomics/metatranscriptomics analysis of microbial communities. Initially, the successful candidate research will focus on the establishment and evolution of the microbial community of an anaerobic digester under different nutrients and environmental conditions.

Responsibilities:

-The successful candidate will deploy innovative computational approaches to understand the ecological establishment and evolution of microbial communities.

-The person selected will have the opportunity to work independently and to build an extramurally-funded student-oriented research program on microbial communities' dynamics. This program should enhance and complement existing programs in the department and college.

-Candidates will be expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research.

-Activities will include experimental execution, data collection, and manuscript and grant preparation.

Qualifications and experience:

Required:

· Ph.D. in Biology, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related fields.

· Evidence of experience with complex biological systems.

· Evidence of demonstrated scholarly activity.

· Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Preferred:

· Experience with shell scripting and familiarity with programming (Python, Perl, C++, R).

· Familiarity and expertise in microbial physiology and ecology

· Experience with some molecular biology techniques (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and transformation)

· Experience with managing research teams of undergraduate students

· Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in research
