Job Description:
The Biomedical Engineer/Wearables Specialist will assist in the Well Living Lab’s primary objective of broadening the scientific and practical understanding of how indoor environments and human behavior interact to impact health and wellness. The Biomedical Engineer/Wearables Specialist will leverage the unique resources of the Well Living Lab and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Delos Lab in NYC, to assist in developing building knowledge and solutions that enable new and innovative methods for monitoring and improving one’s health. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary effort and collaborate with other researchers and business professionals to help achieve key projects that further the mission of Delos and the Well Living Lab. The position is based at the Well Living Lab in downtown Rochester, MN. Responsibilities: Employing an advanced knowledge of good scientific methodology to generate, design, plan and execute research for internal and external purposes. Activities and responsibilities include: -Conduct thorough literature reviews and research on wearables and noninvasive biometric, emotional, behavioral and health tracking technologies. -Design and develop SOPs/testing, best practices and protocols for wearables and biometric technologies. -Develop an understanding of limitations and opportunities related to wearables and biometric devices. -Collaborate with researchers and medical professionals to devise testing and calibration protocols for wearable devices. -Work with the research team to develop an implementation strategy to the use of wearables and biometric devices in studies at the Well Living Lab. -Procure, maintain and calibrate wearables, biometric devices and reference devices. -Guide data collection from biometric devices and advice on data management practices. -Lead analysis of collected data using advanced statistical methods. -Publish research in peer-reviewed or technical journals. -Present research at academic, technical, and/or industry conferences. Candidate Profile & Prerequisites: PhD with at least 2 years of work experience including postdoc, in one or more of the following fields: -Biomedical Engineering -Physiology -Computer Science or Electrical Engineering -Biomechanics -Bioinformatics Preferred Qualifications: -2 or more years of work experience. -Prior experience working in a multidisciplinary environment. -Experience working and analyzing data related to wearables. -Programming experience – Python, C, C++, Matlab, R. -Experience working with micro controllers, sensors, wearables and clinical devices. -Experience working with human subjects. -Experience working in a laboratory setting. -Experience building and testing prototype biometric or medical devices. -Experience working with large datasets and statistical programming. -Proven experience in an environment with multiple tasks and changing priorities. -Ability to thrive in self-managed and team-based work. -Knowledge of cloud-based data collection systems is a plus. -Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills, and a collaborative, constructive outlook. -Ardent detail-orientation, organizational skills, and commitment to delivering high quality work. -First author on peer-reviewed publications. -Experience presenting research at conferences.
