Job Description:
We are seeking an MS biostatistician with biomedical research background to join the Cancer Biostatistics Core of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The person filling this position will write detailed analysis plans, carry out statistical analyses, and interpret analysis results, and must be able work effectively in a multidisciplinary group with regard to study design, statistical programming, analysis of data, and learning new statistical methods. The successful candidate will perform analyses of methylation, gene expression and metabolomics data, and will perform analyses of genetic epidemiology data, cancer survival and prognosis.

Responsibilities:

1. Provides statistical analysis programming, including completion of basic descriptive and inferential analyses and the interpretation of results

2. Reviews data for discrepancies, interact with data managers, and create analysis datasets.

3. Conforms to statistical programming and analysis standards.

4. Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and, as such, may have competing deadlines or time constraints.

5. Assists in the preparation and submission of abstracts and manuscripts.

6. Participates in grant preparation.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a solid knowledge of standard statistical analysis procedures with a minimum of an MS degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field, and demonstrated knowledge of at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). An ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain statistical techniques and present data results.

Preferences:

-A Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics or related field (e.g., bioinformatics).

-Three or more years of experience in a biomedical research setting including statistical consulting experience is desired.

-Demonstrated expertise in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA)

-Prior experience in the analysis of genetic data and background in biology are desired.

- Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as effective time management skills are essential.
