Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated cancer Bioinformatician to join our Bioinformatics Team in the Breast Cancer Now Centre at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Now Unit at Kings College London (KCL), also directed by Professor Tutt. Our goal is to perform cutting-edge bioinformatics analyses and data-mining in collaboration with experimental investigators at the centre identifying new molecular markers of breast cancer. Resultant markers will be examined by co-investigators at the centre and at the clinical trials unit of the ICR. The successful individual will work among a team of inter-disciplinary bioinformaticicans who are experts in NGS-data analysis, machine learning and software development; and therefore offering unique training opportunities. Your work will focus on the development and validation of hypotheses, and to generate molecular markers of breast cancer. You will assume a key position performing analysis/statistical modelling of in-house (as well as publicly available) next generation sequencing datasets such as Exome, Targeted and Whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing and Hi-C datasets. Additional experience in phosphoproteomic platform or kinome activity analyses will be an advantage. These datasets will require strong analytical skills to perform integrated analysis and visualisation of multi-omic datasets. You will have opportunities to create/optimise computational pipelines and develop new methods for the analysis and interpretation of big data in breast cancer. The position holder will work closely with experimental biologists and hence it is essential to be able to effectively communicate your findings to biologists and clinicians. Applicants should hold a degree in a computational subject, have programming and scripting experience, and must have basic knowledge of biology. It is essential to hold a post-graduate qualification in bioinformatics or computational biology or have gained significant experience within bioinformatics role/s. The starting salary is expected to be within the range £32,155 to 43,503 p.a. inclusive, based on relevance of skills and experience. The position will be offered initially on a fixed-term contract of three years and not exceeding an end date of 31st July 2020.
