Job Description:
We are looking for a graduate-level co-op students in the area of bioinformatics and systems biology. In this position, the co-op will work side-by-side with Biogen Computational Biology and Therapeutic Area scientists to analyze large scale genomic and phenotypic data sets, leveraging computational, mathematical, and statistical approaches to address important scientific issues in novel therapeutic target discovery. The co-op will have the opportunity to watch the drug discovery process in action, and to contribute towards Biogen’s efforts to discover novel therapies for neurodegenerative and hematological diseases. The co-op will have an opportunity to work on functional genomics projects, including RNA-Seq and targeted DNA-Seq datasets, and may also contribute to the construction of analysis pipelines, running network biology methods, and integrating different omics datatypes.

Qualifications:

• Experience in the application of computational, mathematical, and statistical approaches towards understanding problems in biology is required.

• Knowledge of modern object-oriented, mathematical and statistical programming techniques and languages (e.g., Perl, Python, R/Matlab, Java, C/C++) is required.

• Experience with NGS data analysis, especially RNA-Seq, is highly desired.

• Experience with machine learning and network modeling of complex data is desired.

• Strong ability to learn and adapt to work on new tasks and projects that he/she may not have worked on previously.

To participate in the Biogen Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

• Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, returning to the academic program following Biogen Co-op assignment.

• Minimum grade point average of 3.2 preferred.

• At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.

• Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies.

Education: B.S. degree in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or other relevant scientific field is required. Active participation in a relevant M.S. or Ph.D. program is required.
