Job Description:
The Pipas laboratory is searching for a Computational Biologist to assist in our virus discovery program and in projects focused on the panviral proteome. The position has funding for up to two years and can start May 1, 2017. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduating major with programming experience. The Pipas laboratory takes pride in training and mentoring Computational Biologists in an environment that is stimulating and interactive.

The Computational Biologist will be responsible for the analyses and interpretation of large high throughput biological datasets, including all those from NGS platforms such as RNA-seq (mRNA and miRNA expression), SNP, methylation and other emerging technologies.

Responsibilities will include statistical analysis, algorithm and software development, and interpretation of results. Incumbent programmer will also be responsible for communicating results by giving presentations and submitting written result reports to lab personnel.

The selected candidate must be able to multitask, develop priorities efficiently, work in a collaborative environment and adapt to changing needs. Must have proficiency in at least one programming language like Java, Python, Perl, or Unix shell scripting. Bachelor’s degree in Computational Biology, Computer Science, or Biology required.

Education Required: Baccalaureate

Minimum Related Experience Level Required: Less than 1 year experience

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position: Experience in computational biology.
