Computational Biologist

Job Description:
A position is available for a Computational Biologist to participate in the development of a new platform technology drug discovery company. The computational biologist will work closely with all members of the ESCO Ventures team and will be a central part of the scientific team. This role is an integral part of the scientific process within the platform company, so an ability to understand the biological and medicinal chemistry aspects will be expected. This will be a fast-paced role where a positive, problem solving, and collaborative approach is needed.

General responsibilities of the role will include:

• Contributing to the assessment, development, and implementation of computational biology methods, pipelines, and data visualizations.
• Design, implementation, and application of statistical methods for analysis and visualization of complex ‘omics data sets.
• Implementation and refinement of software and databases targeted at dataset analysis and visualization.

The computational biologist will report to the principal investigator of the scientific team and you will be a member of a multidisciplinary team within the ESCO Ventures global operation. The Computational Biologist will require strong analytical skills, meet timelines, deliver high quality data, and make this data accessible to scientists of various backgrounds and also to non-scientists. Industrial experience in the pharmaceutical industry is an advantage.

Specific Requirements:

PhD level Computational Biology/Bioinformatics training with relevant experience in scripting languages, such as PHP, R, and Python. This work requires experience with metagenomics and metabolomics data sets, large and unstructured data. Ability to communicate complex scientific data sets, generate data visualizations, methods, and pipelines.
