Job Description:
The Broad Institute seeks a staff COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST to join Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE) project. This is a unique opportunity to make key contributions to the development of personalized cancer therapies and get novel insights into tumor biology. The qualified candidate will develop and support data processing and analysis tools, assist in the maintenance of evolving datasets, integrate tools and databases into existing high-throughput pipelines, and facilitate the display and the distribution of processed data.
The CCLE project represents collaboration between the Broad Institute and the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR). The goals of this initiative consist of
• a detailed genetic, molecular, and pharmacologic characterization of a large panel of human cancer models (~1000 human cancer cell lines)
• development of clinically relevant computational analyses that link distinct tumor vulnerabilities to their specific genetic and/or phenotypic features
• discovery of novel tumor cell biology through integrative analyses of large-scale tumor and cell line datasets
Recently, the goals of this project have expanded to include comprehensive characterization of the cell lines collection at a genomic level (e.g., whole exome, whole genome, and/or transcriptome sequencing), and the generation of epigenomic, metabolomic and proteomic data. These new data sets may augment ongoing predictive modeling efforts that may yield new biomarkers for rational drug development, while also allowing many new insights into tumor biology through innovative analyses.
The successful candidate(s) will have unique opportunity to work with diverse team of computational biologists, clinical oncologists and experimental scientists, both from academia and industry. He or she must be highly organized, motivated, and able to thrive in a fast-paced team science environment. Ability to multi-task, prioritize options, and execute on tasks while anticipating challenges is extremely important.
Requirements:
A PhD in bioinformatics/computer science or other quantitative field is required.
Solid coding skills and experience in algorithm development are critical.
Proficiency in R statistical language and Python or Perl is highly desired.
Prior experience in proteomics data analysis is a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to perform both self-directed and guided research are crucial.
The applicant must also demonstrate outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to meet deadlines and multitask efficiently is a must.
