Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated computational biologist who will work in a clinical diagnostic environment to ensure computational workflows generate accurate results for clinical reporting. These workflows include the molecular characterization of tumor samples to determine a patient's treatment and eligibility for clinical trials. This candidate will maintain bioinformatics analysis pipelines, automate lab workflows and support laboratory and medical staff. This person will work closely with CLIA and FDA regulated staff, instruments, and computer hardware. Teamwork, flexibility and a problem-solving nature are necessary in Ignyta's collaborative and fast paced environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work in a clinical team that efficiently and accurately generates patient results
• Maintain and optimize bioinformatics pipelines within a CLIA environment
• Support laboratory and medical staff with results reporting and analytical review
• Automate repetitive lab activities to improve speed and consistency of lab workflows
• Use analytics to detect lab and computational issues, track metrics and monitor performance
• Participate in the development and validation of analysis software and pipelines for IVD development
• Specify and participate in implementation of any required informatics infrastructure
• Creatively solve lab workflow challenges
• Report lab status to team members and executives
Requirements
• Eager to work in a clinical team that is focused on patient care
• Proficiency in Python and R
• Proficiency in linux (e.g., Redhat and Ubuntu) and Microsoft Windows operating systems
• Experience with LIMS software
• Experience with Illumina and/or Ion Torrent sequencing platforms
• Proficiency with NGS-mapping mapping algorithms (e.g., bowtie, bwa, and STAR)
• Proficiency with NGS-based variant calling algorithms (e.g., GATK and freebayes)
• Invigorated by an entrepreneurial and creative environment
• Familiarity with programming languages, such as PERL, C++, and Java is a plus
• Experience with at least one database language (e.g., MySQL) is a plus
• Degree in Biological Sciences or related scientific discipline with related laboratory experience, including design and execution of related experiments, as indicated below:
o Bachelors: Five (5) to eight (8) years relevant experience or
o Masters: Three (3) to five (5) years; relevant experience or
o Ph.D.: One (2) to three (3) years; relevant experience
