Position SummaryWe are seeking a talented Computational Biologist to tackle challenging bioinformatics and computational biology problems and work collaboratively with the research groups to build the tools and algorithms required to support the development of new, transformative CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing therapies.

Responsibilities

Develops and implements computational biology initiatives and programs utilizing both internal and external resources, consultants, programmers and vendors, to support all gene editing and research activitiesIntegrates bioinformatics and next generation sequence data with both public and private 3rd party databases as required for research programs and projectsDesigns and codes end user web tools for data analysis and integrationEngages, where appropriate, with relevant Pre-Competitive, Public-Private Partnership, Industry Consortia and other major collaborations

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in quantitative or basic science (computational biology / bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or applied science preferred); equivalent (3+ years) experience will be consideredExperience in creating, managing, or analyzing genome scale data as for example: microarray or next generation sequencing (NGS) including whole genome, exome, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, methylation sequencing (RRBS)A solid grasp of R and/or Python is essential for success; other languages such as Java, C++, MATLAB may also be helpful

Preferred Qualifications

The candidate will be a computational biologist that thinks like a biologist; very close interaction with molecular / cell biologists will be expected at every level from experimental design, data curation / quality control, analysis, and algorithm design to ultimately delivering conclusions and recommendations to other researchers and decision makersThe ideal candidate will have a wide understanding of both biology, computational biology, experience working in fast paced team environments (industry and start-up experience is a plus), and will understand and be able to make decisions and recommendations about high level strategy just as well as about the details of an experimentExtensive experience in bioinformatics/computational biology with outstanding skills and abilities in bioinformatics, data curation, large scale data and NGS analysis, statistics and statistical model building, as evidenced by productive and successful programs and/or publicationsMust have good writing skills including documentation skills to maintain software and support documentation; experience with Git, R Markdown / LaTeX will be helpfulStrong leadership and management skills, excellent verbal and written communicationAbility to work independently and successfully in a matrix environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectivelyFamiliar with cell and molecular biology techniques, NGS, gene editing and/or CRISPR/Cas9 biology.A high degree of energy, accuracy and attention to detail, and a passion for creating transformative gene-based medicines to patients with serious diseases
