Job Description:
This position will be responsible for providing general computational biology support for mining high throughput genotype-phenotype association results in support of drug target discovery for the Translational Genetics/Therapeutic Area/Analytical Genetics customers. The ideal candidate would have a strong customer focus and experience gathering customer requirements to ensure timely delivery of analytical results that meet customer needs, and in execution of computational workflows in service of those needs.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with T/TA/AG genetics teams to gather requirements for producing intuitive biologically-relevant subsets (“views”) of high throughput association results emanating from comprehensive genotype-phenotype association studies produced by the analytical genetics team.
  • Produce and extend these views of the high throughput association results for general consumption by T/TA/AG genetics team stakeholders for the purposes of drug target identification. The ideal candidate will be able to rapidly iterate over versions of these views to suit customer requirements, as well as collaborate with analytical genetics team members to design and execute follow-up analyses.
  • Collaboration with GI R+D and Variant Interpretation teams to leverage in-house annotation resources, distributed computing infrastructure and data representations, and bespoke visualization tools for the purposes of recovering biologically impactful findings from high throughput association analysis results.
  • Collaboration with AG high throughput operations team members to access, manipulate, and extract biologically meaningful findings from high throughput association results.
  • Communicate and report study findings and analyses with analysis customers, RGC leadership, and collaborators
This role does NOT include:
  • Generating primary genetic association analysis, which will remain the primary responsibility of the AG team; primary emphasis of the high throughput association results mining team is on supporting genotype-phenotype association interpretation in support of downstream translational goals
  • Development of tools for displaying data, which will remain the primary responsibility of the GI R+D team. Primary emphasis will be on developing heuristics for filtering and presenting views of high throughput association results that are intuitive and interpretable.
Requirements:

This position requires a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, or human genetics with 3-5 years of experience in computational biology and extensive familiarity with human genetic association studies. Additional requirements include:

  • A strong communicator with a customer-focused attitude
  • Deep, expert knowledge of human genotype-phenotype association studies (GWAS, ExWAS, family based studies)
  • Deep knowledge of functional genomics
  • Experience developing and applying filtering heuristics for subsetting high-dimensional datasets to extract meaningful content
  • Experience with general statistical computing languages such as R/S
  • Some coding experience with scripting languages (Python, Perl, bash, etc)
  • Experience in using large scale distributed data infrastructure such as Spark/Databricks/Scala preferred

Additional Info:
The Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, whose goals are to apply large scale human genetics to identify new drug targets and to guide the development of therapeutics programs and precision medicine. Building upon Regeneron's strengths in mouse genetics and genetics-driven drug discovery and development, the RGC specializes in ultra-high-throughput exome sequencing, large scale informatics and data analysis encompassing genomics and electronic health records, and translating genetic discoveries into new biology and drug discovery opportunities. The RGC leverages multiple approaches including large population based studies, Mendelian genetics and family based studies, founder population genetics, and large-scale disease focused projects and has developed a network of over 50 collaborations with research organizations around the world. Including some of the largest sequencing studies in the world, such as the DiscovEHR study in collaboration with Geisinger Health System, and an initiative to sequence 500,000 participants with the UK Biobank, the RGC has built one of the largest human genetics databases, including sequence data from over several hundred thousand participants and rapidly growing. Our interests encompass a breadth of different areas across all therapeutic areas and the RGC is highly integrated into all facets of research and development at Regeneron. Program goals include target discovery, indication discovery, and patient-disease stratification. Objectives include advancing basic science around the world through public sharing of discoveries, providing clinically-valuable insights to physicians and providers of collaborating health-care systems, improving patient outcomes, and identifying novel targets for drug development.

This is an opportunity to join our select team that is already leading the way in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry. Apply today and learn more about Regeneron’s unwavering commitment to combining good science & good business.
