Computational BiologistGSKComputational BiologyUSA-PA-Philadelphia The Computational Biology Department supports Drug Discovery and Development at GSK Pharmaceuticals R&D through the integrative analysis of internal and external biomedical data, combining strong computational skills with biological insight. Our analysis competencies are quite diverse with a focus on target biology, spanning areas such as sequence analysis, comparative genomics, pathways and networks, molecular evolution, RNA/protein expression, drug repositioning, disease indications, structural biology, population/molecular genetics, epigenomics, microbiome/host pathogen analysis, etc. We contribute to projects at different phases of the drug discovery and development pipeline. Our work results in real impacts on new medicines for highly important diseases of unmet medical need.

We currently have openings for talented and motivated computational biologists/bioinformaticians within the GSK Computational Biology Department in the US (Philadelphia, PA) and in the UK (Stevenage, Herts).
As a Computational Biologist you will have a strong technical background in bioinformatics / computational biology / computer science and/or high throughput genomics allied with a good knowledge of biology. Roles available include the identification, the development, implementation, use of computational biology methods in drug discovery and development and/or management of our computer systems and data. You will be comfortable with working in a dynamic, fast changing environment, and able to communicate complex bioinformatics principles, analyses and results to scientists from diverse backgrounds. You will be expected to work well in team based projects. You will be expected to maintain and develop appropriate computational biology/bioinformatics skills, as well as, your internal and external profile through presentations and peer-reviewed publications as appropriate.

•PhD in bioinformatics / computational science / biomedical engineering/ biological sciences or equivalent research experience.
• Strong interest in drug discovery

Preferred qualifications:

•Demonstrated skills in the handling, processing and analysis of multiple large scale genomic and genetic platforms such as transcriptomics, proteomics and Next Generation RNA and DNA seq including understanding of pathway/network analyses.
•Demonstrated skills in computer programming in several languages (especially PERL, PYTHON, R/Bioconductor, JAVA, SQL).
•In depth knowledge and experience of common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools
•Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into testable hypotheses.
•Publication record in peer reviewed journals.
•Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly complex results of computational analyses and concepts to influence diverse audiences. •Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
•Knowledge of Linux operating systems including virtual machines
