Who You Are:

We are looking for a Computational Biologist to apply their working knowledge of popular bioinformatics software to identify tools that can analyze and interpret large and diverse biological datasets. You will be instrumental in helping Catalytic Data Science build the world’s largest integrated biotechnology platform to support life sciences companies that want to analyze more information faster, create powerful workflows that expedite research projects and leverage data to make better-informed decisions.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will mine open-source analytic software to identify bioinformatics tools that could provide a competitive advantage to biotechnology companies and champion their merit for inclusion into our cloud-based platform.
  • You will collaborate with software developers in the development and modification of open source bioinformatics software.
  • You will conceive of new approaches to data analysis by combining multiple open source analytics: construct new methods to pipeline analytic tools in a cloud-based environment.
  • You will maintain current awareness of emerging approaches and methods in the analysis of large-scale genomic data including but not limited to RNAseq, DNASeq, proteomics, etc through immersion in scientific literature and networking.
  • You will work collaboratively with product development and software engineering teams to design and apply bioinformatics algorithms including unsupervised and supervised machine learning, dynamic programming, or graphic algorithms.
  • You will provide customer support on the selection and use of bioinformatics tools.
What You Know:
  • You hold an MS. or PhD., in a computational biology or bio-informatics field with up to 5 years industry or academic experience in a data scientist role.
  • You possess a working knowledge of bioinformatics theory and methods in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, and biological pathways.
  • You have successfully manipulated publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary genomic, proteomic, or post-genomic databases.
  • You have the ability to think creatively by developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions.
  • You would consider yourself an expert in the analysis of large molecular datasets such as raw microarray data, genomic sequence data, and proteomics data for clinical or basic research purposes.
  • You are a self-starter who likes to think unconventionally and would feel energized in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • You have strong organizational and interpersonal skills including oral and written communication and be enthusiastic to work well in a collaborative team setting.
