The Position The department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is seeking a computational biologist with proven experience in the comprehensive analysis of large, multi-dimensional, genomic datasets. This person will be a member of a highly collaborative research group focused on oncology target and biomarker discovery in Genentech Research and Early Development. The successful candidate will work closely with laboratory scientists to discover new cancer targets and biomarkers. Analyses will focus on the intriguing relationships between genome alterations, signaling pathway utilization and response to targeted therapies. Additionally, this person will perform bioinformatics-driven research in related areas of interest, independently, and collaboratively with other computational biologists. Regular publication of research and/or software will be strongly supported and encouraged. The technical skills that will be utilized in this position center on the analysis of multiple forms of high-throughput data, in the context of cancer genomics, especially next-generation sequencing data. A successful candidate should have solid technical skills and a collaborative mindset. Who You Are • You have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology or a related field. • You have a solid track record of data analysis in an appropriate computing environment. Experience with R is a plus. • You have a solid understanding of the relevant concepts in cancer biology and cancer genetics. •You have a solid understanding of the statistical principles that underlie current best practices in the field. Experience with biomarker discovery and evaluation is a plus. • You are highly organized, you pay attention to detail, and are committed to principles of reproducible research. • You look forward to solving technical problems and applying new technologies, when they further your scientific goals. • You enjoy working closely with collaborators and teaching them about computational biology.
