Job Description:
The Computational Biologist/Microbiologist will be a leader in our strain nomination pipeline, integrating data from multiple sources to prioritize our strains and validate our hypotheses-based nominations process. The Computational Biologist/Microbiologist will be a leader in our strain nomination pipeline, integrating data from multiple sources to prioritize our strains and validate our hypotheses-based nominations process. The role will require strong communication skills to bridge Microbial Sourcing and Evaluation with Data Science, among others. Responsibilities:
- Generate data-driven hypotheses to predict microbial function and metabolism; prioritize microbial strains
- Integrate multiple data streams to characterize strain performance and validate our strain prioritization pipeline
- Work closely with Data Sciences Team to ensure proper strain characterization; review current pipeline and suggest improvements
- Propose biological and computational protocols to analyze microbial community structure and function
- Use comparative genomics to predict strain diversity and metabolic potential
- Excellent communication and team work skills; able to communicate and work cross-functionally between teams involved with microbial sourcing and screening, field trials science, and data science
- Experience with bioinformatics tools, including comparative genomics and metabolic pathway prediction
- Excellent data management and organizational skills
- Creative and adaptable
- Familiar with microbial physiology and microbe-plant interactions
- Ability to utilize computational tools to solve complex biological problems
- PhD in Microbiology or related field; postdoctoral experience preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of microbial physiology; plant-microbe interactions
- Experience in analyzing large biological datasets
- Strong data science and bioinformatics background, with experience in Python and pipeline development
- Comfortable programming in R or Python; working in UNIX
