Computational Biologist - Postdoctoral Research AssociateUSDA-ARS at Iowa State UniversityUSA-IA-Ames A Computational Biologist Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture Research Service (ARS) Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit in Ames, Iowa. As part of a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, the selected candidate will use his/her background and passion in computational biology and machine learning to discover creative solutions for management, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of large amounts of biological data while creating tools and resources useful for maize researchers, specifically in the area of protein-protein interaction networks. To be eligible, applicants must have a doctorate in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Statistics, Engineering, or a related discipline in the biological or physical sciences within five years of desired starting date.
Preferred skills include:
- Demonstrated experience with designing computational methods and tools
- Strong background in machine learning, statistics, and programming
- Strong publication record
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, while building and nurturing collaborations with external research groups
- Excellent communication skills to disseminate research findings and keeping team members and collaborators informed
This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) and foreign nationals.
Additional Information:
The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation. The annual salary for this position is $47,923.
