Job Description:
The core mission of the computational division of The Center for Epigenetics Research is to leverage genomic and epigenomic data to provide novel insights into cancer epigenetics, and to communicate these results to multidisciplinary teams of basic and translational scientists, clinicians, and group leaders. This is accomplished through the integration of gene expression, chromatin structure, and sequence variation with clinical data and experimental animal models, with the goal of understanding, predicting, and gaining therapeutic insight into the epigenetic components of tumorigenesis.

The bioinformatics scientist will be responsible for in depth integrative analysis of multiple genomic and epigenomic data types with a focus on advancing a systems level understanding of cancer epigenetics. He/she will also build analysis frameworks and statistical tools to be utilized more broadly across a range of project goals.

Requirements:

Ph.D. or equivalent in bioinformatics, computer science or related field. Ability to maintain detailed records of all analyses and to communicate findings in a clear and concise manner.

Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of principles behind current genomic analysis methods
  • Research experience in computational biology, with an emphasis on next-generation sequencing data
  • Extensive experience with scientific computing (R or Matlab)
  • Proficient in scripting languages (Perl or Python)
  • Familiar with UNIX/Linux environment
  • Knowledge of publicly available bioinformatics tools and software packages
  • Knowledge of C, C++, or Java
  • Solid understanding of probability and statistics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present analyses to a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians and scientists
