Job Description:
At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Computational Biologist Integrations Architect to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA. As a member of the software engineering team at Synthetic Genomics, you will work in close coordination with bioinformatics and bench scientists to implement and support our in-house software platform Archetype®. Should have solid systems engineering / operation experience. Able to participate in all phases of project development cycle including definition, architecture, design, scoping, planning, implementation and testing. Scope: • Responsible for leadership and integration aspects of software development and bioinformatics functions focused on the development of the software ecosystem for our in-house software platform. • Contributes to the long-term planning and strategic development for the function and the business. Proactively coordinates software and bioinformatics activities within the department and collaboratively throughout all the relevant functional groups. • Leads and supports the scientific and technical activities responsible for significant portions of SGI’s software, bioinformatics and cloud-based solutions.

Requirements
Desired Skills: • Ability to make recommendations and decisions considering relevant business drivers to meet internal capability development and market needs in a rapidly-growing and dynamic environment. • Successful track record establishing strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners across global organizations. • Demonstrated ability to organize and develop a software function and its ecosystem to deliver quality products on time and in scope/budget. • Strong knowledge of agile software development practices, scrum and project management tools and metrics. • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams in an operational matrix to delivery results. Required Experience: • Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics or related field is required. • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in a science based organization leading data management, software engineering and informatics efforts. • Proven track record of innovation as evidenced by patents, publications and products. • Demonstrated technical and people leadership skills and a history of successfully leading/governing strategic initiatives working cross-functionally. • Excellent leadership capabilities with demonstrated skill in building, guiding and motivating effective teams and fostering productive collaborations. • Understanding of GxP concepts and controls for data handling. • Experience formulating strategies to manage high dimensional and translational complex biological data and metadata is a plus. • Solid understanding of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and development methodologies like Waterfall, Agile etc. • Project management experience/understanding. • Experience managing CRO and vendor relationships a plus. Outstanding communication and partnering skills.
