Computational Chemist

Job Description:
We are seeking a Computational Chemist to contributes to the team’s shared responsibility of supporting existing research projects, building new technologies into drug discovery platforms, and developing new algorithms for cheminformatics and deep learning.

Responsibilities:

• Provides computational chemistry support to research projects using a broad spectrum of structure-based design and cheminformatics techniques and analyses
• Capable of applying state-of-the-art computational approaches to solving pharmaceutical research problems
• Demonstrates expertise in computational methods such as structure and ligand based design, conformational analysis, molecular dynamics, QSAR, binding free energy calculations and data mining.
• Leverage the scale of WuXi proprietary data, design applications, and computing infrastructure in conjunction with commercial tools and data sources to develop powerful computational solutions

Qualifications

Technical Skills / Knowledge:

• 5-10 year’s experience in computational chemistry and scientific programming.
• Proficient in computer programming, preferably in Python
• Proficient in modeling packages including Schrodinger Suite
• Skilled in the use of advanced scientific concepts and theories relevant to Computational Chemistry.
• Demonstrates independent thought and scientific creativity
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of advanced and novel experimental methods and techniques.

• Goals and Objectives are tied to specific scientific objectives of the department
• Accountable for individual goals and outcomes
• Demonstrates proficiency and broad knowledge in relevant scientific disciplines which allow for a high level of independence.
• Leads internal programs

• Solves problems which fall within the scope of technical and experimental methods and concepts.
• Applies knowledge and expertise to provide insight into and solutions to complex problems
• Works on problems that are not straightforward and often require creativity to solve.
• Leads the development of action plans to approach scientific objectives of the department.

Leadership Activities:

• Adds to the group’s technical efforts in areas that are advanced and novel.
• Articulates and instructs others regarding advanced knowledge of novel areas to the department
• Presents finding at interdisciplinary meetings and may present at management meetings.

Communication Skills:

• Must work well with others
• Communicates ideas and information in an effective manner
• Establishes lines of communication
• Ability to speak and write in English and Mandarin Chinese is helpful.

Customary Education and Experience:

• PhD. In relevant cheminformatics/computational chemistry, bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, biostatistics or closely related scientific discipline.
• 5 - 10 years of experience.
