Job Description:
We are seeking a highly self-motivated computational scientist to integrate phenotypic and molecular profiling data for the discovery and development of new therapeutics in the Respiratory Disease Area. The successful candidate will work at the cutting edge of science and drug discovery to solve scientific challenges in identifying new drug targets, biomarkers, and patient stratification strategies. This will involve formulating and answering biological questions using complex datasets and novel computational solutions. The candidate will lead and participate on teams that bring together bench scientists, statisticians, engineers and other bioinformatitians to provide high quality data analysis and interpretation of large scale experimental data sets. S/he will have the opportunity to work in an exciting and collaborative environment that provides the opportunity to gain new skills and scientific knowledge while advancing drug discovery for various Respiratory Diseases of significant unmet medical need.

  • Develop and execute analytical strategies to address scientific questions using computational approaches and the integrated analysis of high-throughput molecular and phenotypic data
  • Help establish and lead interactions with collaborators within Novartis and academic community
  • Provide scientific expertise and critical assessment for internal and external collaboration.

Minimum requirements

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive interdisciplinary scientific initiatives that include data analysis and interpretation and applications to drug discovery projects
  • Develop and execute analytical strategies to address scientific questions using computational approaches and the integrated analysis of high-throughput molecular and phenotypic data
  • Help establish and lead interactions with collaborators within Novartis and academic community Provide scientific expertise and critical assessment for internal and external collaboration.
Requirements:
  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, systems biology, genetics, computer science, statistics, or a related field with 3+ years of postgraduate experience experience in analysing "-omic" data such as RNA-sequencing, protein profiling data, WGS, or GWAS
  • Ability to learn, apply, and assess novel analysis techniques with a results-oriented approach
  • A demonstrated understanding of statistics
  • Relevant work experience using scientific computing in a life-science environment
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with Python/Perl, R/MATLAB or equivalent scripting languages
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead teams and projects as well as work as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Desired experience includes:
  • Experience with patient stratification and biomarker discovery approaches
  • Industry experience
  • Hands-on experience with multivariate, single cell data visualization and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with Machine Learning algorithms, pattern recognition approaches
  • Respiratory disease biology knowledge or related field
