Job Description:
Counsyl seeks to hire a scientist to conduct advanced research on a broad range of problems of interest to the company. Our current products include two genetic tests: the Family Prep Screen, which has already helped hundreds of thousands of people discover critical information about their status for Mendelian disorders before having children, and the Inherited Cancer Screen to detect predispositions to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. As a Computational Research Scientist, You Will Work On Developing The Next Generation Of Products And New Technologies To Help Us Advance Our Mission. Potential Topics For Research Include Computational methods in population, statistical, medical, and functional genetics/genomics Analysis algorithms and processing architectures for next-generation sequencing data Natural language processing and information extraction Cryptography and privacy-preserving methods in genomics Hardware, software, and process to increase the efficiency of the automated laboratory What You'll Do Research and develop advanced concepts in clinical genetics, computational biology, or laboratory automation (broadly construed). Publish your developed methods and research findings. Contribute to other Counsyl publications: analyze data, write and review papers. Interface with outside researchers: give academic talks and presentations and drive external collaborations. About you PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as computer science, population genetics, statistics, computational biology, or electrical engineering. Evidence of creative and independent thought in research. Evidence of strong research and publication record in a relevant field. Strong programming ability in at least one general-purpose language. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Interest in hard problems involving both scientific and engineering components.
