Job Description:
Job Duties:

  • Support faculty and students in adapting computational strategies to the specific features of the HPC infrastructure. Working with a range of systems and technologies such as compute cluster, parallel file systems, high speed interconnects, GPU-based computing and database servers.
  • Develop software and methods to explore, analyze and visualize biological data sets including genomic, imaging and protein structure data.
  • Participate in the design and execution of collaborative research studies in biomedical informatics.
  • Train users on the application and usage of computational systems to help accelerate the pace of scientific discovery.
Experience and Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and three (3) years of scientific software development/analysis. Experience with HPC is a strong plus. Master's or PhD preferred. Will consider demonstrated success in publishing computational science results in lieu of experience.

Other Experience:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in applying core Machine Learning methodologies: Artificial Neural Networks/ Deep Learning, Support Vector Machines, Matrix Factorization, Natural Language processing, Decision trees, Classification, Clustering, Predictive Analytics, Regression.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or related field with experience and demonstrable work in machine learning.
  • Proficient in Linux command lines, bash scripting, and revision control e.g. Git or SVN.
  • Demonstrated strength in both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
  • Experience with standard implementations of Machine Learning algorithms through libraries/packages/APIs (e.g. scikit-learn, Theano, Spark MLlib, H2O, TensorFlow etc.).
  • Experience in developing database data-structures using MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, MongoDB, etc.
  • Experience with handling and combining large data-sets.
  • Familiar with Data Science life cycle: Data Wrangling, Feature Engineering, Data Visualization (discovery), and Model Generation.
Other Job Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with faculty and staff to design and implement data preprocessing, integration, and analysis solutions for biological data sets including genomic, imaging and protein structure data
  • Contribute to writing and reviewing drafts of reports, posters, and manuscripts, including writing up interpretation of analysis results and description of statistical methods used
  • Develop Machine Learning/Statistical Model algorithms applied to genomics, imagining, proteomics, and clinical data.
  • Transform biological research data into usable features.
  • Build automated analysis/visualization tools.
  • Train users on the application and usage of computational systems to help accelerate the pace of scientific discovery.
