Job Description:
Seres Therapeutics is seeking a talented, highly-motivated Computational Scientist I to play a key role in the company’s Ecobiotic® therapeutics discovery programs in infectious, metabolic, and inflammatory disease. The successful candidate will work intimately with research teams across the organization to translate critical insights in the field of the human microbiome into therapeutic leads. The successful candidate will be innovative and possess solid programming experience with an ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure. The candidate will contribute to discovery efforts through collaboration with researchers in specifying requirements for designing software to enhance workflow efficiency, bolster analytical results, and harden prototype processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement quantitative methods, metrics, and analytical pipelines for evaluating and interpreting microbiome data sets, balancing adoption of publicly available tools with targeted internal code development
  • Develop and maintain software with minimal supervision based on requirements specified by scientists and managers with a commitment to compliance with FDA regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with scientists to collect requirements and to present solutions in a clear, concise manner.
  • Troubleshoot errors and recommend action and solutions.
How do you know if you’re the right fit?
  • Ph.D. or Masters in computational biology, computer science, or another related scientific field.
  • For MS, requires 3+ years’ experience in biotechnology industry or academic research.
  • Experience with software engineering concepts including version control, software testing, and other software development best practices.
  • Experience in Python and its scientific, numerical, and data visualization modules (e.g. pandas, NumPy, matplotlib).
  • Fluency with Linux, high-performance computing clusters, databases (Oracle preferred) and query language, and analysis pipelines.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
Helpful Skills:
  • Experience with cloud computing architecture.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics algorithms, statistics, and software tools.
  • Prior experience with analyzing “omics” data is a plus.
  • Familiarity with web application development using JavaScript and CSS.
  • Experience with regulated clinical environment and software validation.
  • Basic knowledge of biology. Microbiome experience is preferred.
