Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Division of the Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California is seeking a motivated, experienced individual to join the Thomas research group (https://sites.google.com/usc.edu/thomaslab), to develop software pipelines and web tools for large scale gene function analyses, and provide basic sysadmin support for the database and Unix OS. The individual will play a key role in the Gene Ontology Consortium (http://geneontology.org), one of the largest bioinformatics projects in the world. In this role there will be close interaction with other team members at USC as well as with other GOC software development groups, including the group at LBNL in Berkeley, CA. Qualifications: The qualified individual will have at least a B.S. degree in computer science or related field (Masters preferred), 2-3 years of experience in Java and web programming, and excellent communication skills. Basic knowledge in database querying (SQL) and Unix sysadmin is highly recommended, experience with formal ontologies a plus. Experience with Perl and Python, and basic bioscience knowledge, especially molecular biology or genome research, is preferred.
