Concordia University seeks to appoint a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Bioinformatics Algorithms. The successful candidate will be a senior academic researcher and possess an outstanding international reputation as a research leader. S/he will be expected to (1) provide leadership for future growth in bioinformatics research at Concordia; (2) contribute to the continuing success on interdisciplinary collaboration in genomics at Concordia; and (3) position Concordia to be a world leader in bioinformatics and its application to critical issues in health, agriculture, the environment, and/or synthetic biology. The successful candidate is expected to have established a highly visible, internationally recognized and innovative research program in bioinformatics as demonstrated by an outstanding publication and funding record and ability to attract excellent graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Concordia’s research strengths in genomics and bioinformatics span the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) and The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ENCS). Researchers from multiple departments within the two faculties (Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, and Mathematics & Statistics in FAS; Computer Science & Software Engineering, and Electrical & Computer Engineering in ENCS) are brought together in a centralized manner through The Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics (CSFG). The CSFG is a vibrant research centre where life scientists who address biological questions through interrogation of big data come together with computer scientists who develop programs and algorithms to facilitate such interrogation.
The CRC will be a member of the CSFG and will hold a tenured position in either the Department of Biology or the Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering, depending on the candidate’s background and preference.

CRC positions at Concordia offer an attractive salary, an annual research stipend, reduced teaching loads, and the opportunity to apply for start-up infrastructure through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Leaders Opportunity Fund (LOF). The successful candidate will be nominated to the Canada Research Chairs Program (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/). Tier 1 CRCs are awarded for seven years and may be renewed.

The successful candidate for the CRC position will, in the first instance, be offered a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, as appropriate, in the host department. The candidate will be required to work with the department and the Faculty to prepare the formal CRC nomination according to the CRC program guidelines. The University will submit the nomination to the CRC Secretariat at the earliest opportunity
