Job Description:
The Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute, a leading cancer and developmental biology research institute with a vibrant computational environment, is seeking two people to join the Core Bioinformatics group, supporting research throughout the Institute.

The persons appointed will have a PhD or equivalent in a scientific, computational or mathematical subject. Applicants with a scientific background are expected to demonstrate a solid understanding of molecular biology and experience of computational techniques used in the analysis of biological data. Applicants from computational or mathematical backgrounds are expected to demonstrate applied computational experience along with demonstrable knowledge and experience of biological research. Applicants from both backgrounds should have a good understanding of statistical methods and their application to large data sets. Expertise in protein sequence and structure, analysis of NGS or other high-throughput data, or bespoke bioinformatics analysis would be beneficial. Knowledge of High Performance Computing would be an asset, though not essential.

The Core Bioinformaticians will work within a small team to: 1) analyse and carry out project requirements from scientist's descriptions; 2) provide clear explanations of computational methods and techniques to bench scientists; 3) liaise with other bioinformaticians within and outside of the Institute. Good oral and written communication skills are essential. The persons appointed will have the ability to multi-task and prioritise work effectively.
