We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Scientist to join the high-performing Transformational Bioinformatics Team within the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC), which is part of the CSIRO Health and Biosecurity Business Unit. You will undertake medical bioinformatics research, contributing to multiple projects undertaken by the CSIRO and in collaboration with other academic and commercial partners. These projects will include the development and deployment of novel algorithms and tools that provide clinical decision support from high-throughput biomedical data.

Your duties will include:

Develop innovative concepts, theories, tools and techniques related to the analysis, integration and processing of high-throughput biomedical data. Harness the growing volume of publicly available data sources (TCGA, 1000g project, Microbiome Consortium). Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO. Produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in high impact journals, for client reports and granting of patents. Contribute to the development of innovative concepts and ideas for further research.

Salary: AUD$92K to AUD$100K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered, you will have:

A doctorate and research experience in a relevant discipline area, such as computer science, information technology, engineering or an equivalent field. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in bioinformatics application specifically high-throughput sequence data analysis and a deep understanding of the underlying molecular biology (e.g. DNA amplification). Demonstrated experience with high-performance computer environments (e.g. PBS, SLURM) as well as parallelization strategies and multithreading. Evidence of advanced programming skills and software design in languages relevant for bioinformatics (e.g. R, Python, C++, Java, Scala, BASH). Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team to prototype research ideas and develop them into demonstration and/or proof of concept systems. In addition, a demonstrated ability to interact with external/internal collaborators and stakeholders.
